When biking in Tuscany, you can choose an itinerary among the Tuscan hills, through the cities of art or in the middle of the countryside. The routes can be practiced with racing bikes, hybrid bikes, and mountain bikes. Furthermore, the mild climate means that the cycling season lasts really long. For this reason, Tuscany remains one of the most popular regions for cyclists from all over the world.

Tuscany Cycling Routes That You Should Try

There are so many stunning Tuscany cycling routes it can be hard to choose.

The Via Francigena: is after all one of the most beautiful paths in Europe, perhaps second only to the Camino de Santiago. The Via Francigena connected Canterbury (in England) to Rome. This famous Tuscany cycling route was traveled in ancient times by thousands of pilgrims on their way to the capital cities of Christianity. What many do not know is that it is also possible to travel along this route by bike.

Val d’Orcia: an itinerary in an enchanting naturalistic area where you can travel the ancient roads of the Via Francigena starting from Siena and arriving in Buonconvento, between asphalted and dirt roads.

Florence Hills: a glorious ride on the hills surrounding Florence with spectacular views of the town in the distance.
Lucca and the Apuane Mountains: Lucca is a cycling paradise. While much of Tuscany is characterized by rolling hills, wheat fields, and cypress pines Lucca is marked by steep climbs, high peaks, and quiet valleys. It is not uncommon to see many pro riders sharing the otherwise quiet road, unbothered by the traffic of visitors driving from one destination to the next.

Route of the Eroica: the Eroica is an event that evokes a memory of cycling in another time, founded in 1997 and still takes place in early October. The route runs largely on roads in the Chianti Senese area, perfectly signposted, and can be practiced all year round. The routes available are different depending on the degree of difficulty: from the long one of 205 km to the walk of 46 km, passing through the medium 135 km and short 75 km.

Mary

I am Mary Di Lanno, owner of the Real Estate Agency "La Camelia" based near Lucca in Tuscany. I grew up in Montreal, Canada and I speak perfect English and quite good French. After returning to Italy and during my studies at the University of Parma, I studied for 6 months in Germany, where I also learned the German language. After graduating, I worked for several years in the customer service office and marketing department of some large companies in the ceramic sector. About 15 years ago I moved to Lucca together with my husband and last year at the beach in Lido di Camaiore. I have always had the vocation to help find the ideal home for those who come on holiday or those who want to buy it, so when I moved to Lucca in 2004 I opened my real estate agency. I fully understand the various needs of my clients, who often come from different nations and cultural backgrounds. I am convinced that the best service is given by learning to deeply know the tastes and preferences of each person. Each customer is special and unique.
